With hurricane season in full swing out in the Pacific, we settle in to a lazy routine in our new temporary home base in Puerto Chiapas. Between boat projects, we relax and enjoy the tropical weather, visit the nearby city of Tapachula and jump through the bureaucratic hurdles necessary to send a package back to the USA.

This week we finally placed our new sails order. More on that soon! But now we have to wait. Six to eight weeks. In the meantime we continue slowly checking items off our to-do list. Will we run out of things to do before we leave here? I don’t think so!

While underway to Puerto Chiapas, after our forestay detached we reduced sail coverage, the next item on the list of immediate troubles was our engine’s cooling system. We had just recently replaced the worn impeller of our raw water pump while anchored in Acapulco, so the we figured the culprit was elsewhere.

After our unexpected rigging and engine problems on passage from Acapulco, we anticipated the worst was yet to come as we slowly limped in to Chiapas in the wee hours of the morning. But Neptune seemed to grant us a reprieve, delivering us safely to a wonderful little harbor at the very southern extreme of Mexico’s Pacific Coast; Marina de Chiapas!

On June 1 we raised anchor and left Acapulco, Guerrero, for Oaxaca. Three days later we dropped anchor in a hurricane ravaged Puerto Angel.
