While Nic was staying in Turtle Cay working on Rua Hatu and the dinghy as well as looking after the pets, I departed Panama for a summer trip to Europe to visit friends and family in Germany and Croatia.
My flights took me from Panama City to Munich via Madrid. In Munich I spent a few days with my dear friend Nadine and took a day to walk around my former home town. At the end I had covered over 25 kilometers on foot across downtown. I think I earned the two blisters on my feet.
In Croatia I stayed with my parents on the island of Cres. I spent my days swimming, either at the beach at the bottom of the hill or out to a remote beach by boat. During my time there, I was fortunate to also reconnect with two of my cousins and their families. Both came to spend their summer vacation on the island with their families. I hadn’t seen either of them in over 12 years so getting back together was a real treat!
Other days I spent with my parents, family members, and friends eating great foods and drinking delicious beverages while sharing life stories.
After six weeks it was time for me to head back to Rua Hatu to get her ready for our upcoming journey across the Caribbean.
